Pets impact our lives far out of proportion to their physical existance. We curse them for it every time they escape us, permanent or not, but we wouldn't have it any other way. This is what makes them 'family' instead of animal. Humans are sometimes like that, but it's more noticeable when the life is shorter, the body smaller, and the time all too brief as it is. The hole they leave should not seem as big as it is, yet there it is.

So long as we remember, death cannot fully take claim. I'm sure it's been said better by someone else. Doesn't make it easier. But it's true, and sometimes it's all you get.
